An
MPB Response to Needs of Children Affected by Hurricane Katrina
Mississippi
Public Broadcasting (MPB) teamed up with the giants of the public
broadcasting industry and the Mississippi State University Extension
Service for Operation ABC – Read, a
Hurricane Katrina recovery effort to provide resource kits of
educational materials to shelters, initially, and to affected
daycare centers.
Following
the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, MPB began talking with
the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Sesame Workshop, and
WGBH-Boston to embrace the needs of these early learners.
Discussions
resulted in the donation of over 10,000 items by eleven donors.
Items
donated included books and activity/coloring books, games and
toys, art supplies, DVD's and videos, emergency radios, t-shirts,
and caregiver/parent pamphlets.
