According to MPB Director of Educational Outreach Sharon Person, “MPB received over 400 entries from all across the state representing at least 30 different schools.  This contest was a wonderful opportunity for schools and parents to encourage children to create their own stories and to express themselves through creative writing and illustration.”

The contest was conducted in cooperation with MPB and the producers of Reading Rainbow, which is broadcast Monday through Friday at noon on MPB-TV.  Each entrant will receive a special Certificate of Achievement signed by LeVar Burton, host of the Reading Rainbow series. 

Each of the winners will receive a Reading Rainbow backpack, a DVD copy of a Reading Rainbow program, and be treated to a special two-day “2007 MPB Reading Rainbow Winners Celebration Event” in Jackson. The first place winners will advance to the national competition.
