Young Writers and Illustrators Contest!

Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) invites youngsters to participate in its annual

Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest .

Children from kindergarten through third grade are encouraged to write and illustrate their own stories and submit them to MPB

by the March 31, 2006, deadline .

The contest is conducted in cooperation with MPB and the producers of Reading Rainbow , which is broadcasted Monday through Friday at noon.

All entries from Mississippi are judged locally. First and second place winners are selected for each grade level, with each receiving a Reading Rainbow backpack and VHS copy of a Reading Rainbow program.

The producers of Reading Rainbow have underwritten this event in the past, but they regretfully notified MPB that the national contest is on hiatus. Thanks to the Friends of Mississippi Public Broadcasting, MPB was able to continue the Reading Rainbow Contest on a statewide level.
