Celebrate FREEDOM with MPB on July 4 th

( Jackson , Miss.) -- Tune in to Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) television on the Fourth of July at 7:00 p.m. for A Capitol Fourth and at 8:30 p.m. for Freedom Riders: The Children Shall Lead.

From the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, Jason Alexander hosts America 's biggest 230 th birthday celebration, A Capitol Fourth , featuring a fireworks display, the National Symphony Orchestra, and some of the country's best known musical artists -Michael Bolton, Stevie Wonder, Jo Dee Messina, and teen R&B-Pop singer JoJo.  Elmo will also make a special appearance.

Afterwards, go back to the summer of 1961 by watching Freedom Riders: The Children Shall Lead.  Join a group of students and others who boarded two buses in Washington , D.C. , and traveled to Jackson , Mississippi and other cities of the deep South as part of the civil rights movement.
