(Jackson, Miss.)¾ Beginning Labor Day, September 4th, Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) television will have a new lineup of children’s shows, as the PBS KIDS special Preschool Block is launched.

The Preschool Block includes “Miss Lori” (Chicago-based performer, teacher and mom Lori Holton Nash), PBS KIDS’ first-ever live host, and her animated sidekick, guinea pig Hooper, to guide kids through a two-hour programming block with daily themed activities, music and movement. 

This new block features four PBS KIDS programs age-appropriately grouped, including two new series – Curious George, (premiering September 4, 2006), emphasizing science, math and engineering, and It’s a Big Big World (launched January 2006), highlighting science and geography. Alongside are existing favorites – Clifford the Big Red Dog, presenting universal social, emotional, and moral messages, and Dragon Tales, emphasizing that “just trying” is an important part of learning.

 

Also beginning September 4th, activities, songs and resources corresponding to the day’s themed curriculum will be available by visiting www.mpbonline.org and clicking on “PBS Kids,” “PBS Parents” and “PBS Teacher Line.”
