MPB-TV provides LIVE broadcast of 2006 Cellular South Conerly Trophy Presentation |

( Jackson , Miss.) - Catch the excitement on Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) television, Wednesday, November 29 th , at 7:00 p.m., of the LIVE 2006 Cellular South Conerly Trophy Presentation to learn who will be selected as this year's top collegiate football player in Mississippi .
Live from the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum in Jackson , viewers can experience the anticipation as sports agent Kyle Rote, Jr., a motivational speaker and former North American Soccer League star, and Mississippi native Wesley Walls, a former All-American and National Football League tight end, host this year's Cellular South Conerly Trophy Presentation .
According to Lee Owens, the 2006 Cellular South Conerly Trophy Presentation producer, "This year's Cellular South Conerly Trophy Presentation will not only honor and celebrate the late great Charlie Conerly and this year's three Conerly finalists, it will also honor and celebrate college football all over Mississippi ." “As a Mississippi-headquartered company, Cellular South is proud of our partnership with the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum to present one of the most highly coveted sports awards in the state – the Cellular South Conerly Trophy,” said Hu Meena, Cellular South president. “This award has honored some of our state's most outstanding athletes and will continue to do so in the future. With its live coverage of the awards presentation, Mississippi Public Broadcasting will allow Mississippians to share in the excitement of honoring our state's finest college football athletes.”
“It's definitely a horse race this year with several outstanding, deserving candidates,” said Michael Rubenstein, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum Executive Director. “This should be a very interesting evening at the event and on TV.” Founded and organized exclusively by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame & Museum since 1996, the award is given annually to Mississippi 's top college football player as determined by a panel of 60 media voters representing radio, television and print outlets in small, medium and large sized markets across the state. The award, named after the late Charlie Conerly, is a lost-wax bronze casting of an original clay sculpture by the late Bruce Brady, a nationally acclaimed artist from Brookhaven. The trophy is part of Cellular South's Outstanding Player Awards, administered by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. The awards also include the Cellular South Ferriss Trophy, named after Dave “Boo” Ferriss, honoring Mississippi 's best collegiate male baseball player of the year and the Cellular South Howell Trophy, named after Bailey Howell, honoring Mississippi 's best collegiate male basketball player – all announced through live broadcasts on Mississippi Public Broadcasting television. |
