Mississippi Public Broadcasting airs Oprah's Roots: African American Lives Special

( Jackson , Miss.) - Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) brings you up close and personal with Oprah Winfrey as she discovers the full history of her ancestors' struggles and accomplishments in Oprah's Roots: African American Lives Special on Wednesday, January 24 th , at 7:00 p.m.

Oprah's Roots , a one-hour special, builds on previously unseen portions and powerfully moving discussions of Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s original interview with Winfrey from the February 2006 PBS premiere of African American Lives .

Gates, series host and executive producer, and Winfrey explore in further detail her formative years in Kosciusko, Mississippi , and in Milwaukee and Nashville .

Additional in-depth genealogical and historical research reveals remarkable new stories about Winfrey's ancestors and elaborates on stories introduced in the original series.

The program presents the dramatic results of her genetic analysis, which not only reveal that she has significant Native American ancestry, but also locate her matrilineal ancestors on the western coast of Africa .

This fascinating quest of Oprah's Roots will not only showcase Winfrey's family legacy, but will also show viewers how census and slave holder's property records can help locate their own ancestors.
