UMC and MPB take inside look at cancer field

(Jackson, Miss.) - Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) and the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMC) are partnering to air “The Truth About Cancer: A Southern Remedy Special” Wednesday, April 16 at 8:30 p.m. immediately following the national documentary “The Truth About Cancer” at 7 p.m.

“The Truth About Cancer” presents the latest efforts in the fight against the disease and chronicles the lives of patients, doctors and researchers who are united in the hope for a cancer cure. The documentary is a Public Broadcasting System production.

MPB’s “The Truth About Cancer: A Southern Remedy Special” gives Mississippians the opportunity to ask questions during a live audience and call-in show.  The program features discussion regarding treatments, care and the demographics of cancer in Mississippi.

Gene Edwards and Dr. Rick deShazo, hosts of MPB Radio’s “Southern Remedy,” moderate the show and welcome Dr. Ralph Vance.  Dr. Vance is professor of medicine in the Division of Oncology at UMC and is the former president of the American Cancer Society.

“At MPB we continue our tradition of community service by offering crucial information for Mississippians whose lives have been touched by cancer and by offering guidance on how to manage the realities that come with a cancer diagnosis,” says Jay Woods, MPB Deputy Executive Director in charge of content.
