Ann Copland Leads MPB’s Efforts in Education |

Ann Marie Copland joined Mississippi Public Broadcasting as Deputy Executive Director for Education. Ms. Copland is working to establish key partnerships in Mississippi, Washington, DC and across the nation to create new children’s programs and educational opportunities for Mississippi.
A member of Senator Thad Cochran's staff since his election in 1978, Ms. Copland served as Senior Executive and Legislative Assistant. Her legislative issues included: public television for children, technology in education, arts education, rural early childhood education, foreign language education and economic education. Most recently, her efforts were dedicated to federal assistance for Hurricane Katrina recovery for schools and historic preservation.
The Association of Public Television Stations recently presented the Champion of Public Broadcasting award to Ms. Copland. The award honors her significant contribution to the progress and growth of public television.
The National Writing Project recognized her work in April 2008. The Northeast Conference for the Teaching of Foreign Languages honored Ms. Copland with their 2003 Foreign Language Advocate Award. Mississippi College twice recognized her with Distinguished Alumna awards: in 2005 by the Foreign Language Department and in 1996 by the Department of Communication.
Ms. Copland was born in Detroit, Michigan. In 1978, she earned her B.A. in Speech and Communicating Arts at Mississippi College. She is married to Marty Farmer, a middle school Tech-Ed teacher. Their sons are: Guy Henry, a student at Mississippi State University; and Stuart, a ninth grader.
