July brings MPB’s

SuperWHY Camp and Kids Club kick-off

(Jackson, Miss.) - Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) is hosting a week-long “SuperWHY” Reading Camp July 21 - 25 from 8:30 a.m. until noon at the MPB studios in Jackson.  The MPB Kids Club kick-off celebration, “The World of Scooter Paws,” is Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at LeFleur’s Bluff State Park.

MPB’s “SuperWHY” Camp, based on the PBS KIDS animated adventure series, is for children ages four to five.  Due to limited space, the first 30 children will be accepted.  The camp offers creative activities to expose children to the critical skills they need to read and to develop a love for reading. It will be staffed by MPB education department employees who have expertise in the area of early childhood education and elementary education. For an application and more information, visit www.mpbonline.org and click on the “SuperWHY” icon.

The MPB Kids Club kick-off celebration, “The World of Scooter Paws,” is open to the public.  Scooter Paws, the club’s mascot, heads the roster of special characters to include Clifford the Big Red Dog, SuperWHY, Digit from “Cyberchase” and Inky the Clown.

Kids will have photo opportunities with Clifford and SuperWHY.  There will be a Teletubbies Get Up and Go activity area, hands-on activities from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a puppet show, face painting and special tours.

MPB Kids Club is a statewide club free for children ages four to 12 years old to engage in educational activities, attend meetings and be involved with MPB productions.  It provides kids a platform to showcase their talents and ideas, enter contests and receive special prizes.
