Kathy Whicker Appointed to Mississippi Public Broadcasting Board of Directors |

JACKSON, Miss. - Kathy Whicker of Greenwood has been appointed to the Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) Board of Directors, MPB announced today. MPB Board members are appointed by the Governor and are responsible for the administration, operation, control and supervision of educational television and radio in Mississippi.
Whicker is a retired teacher with the Greenwood Municipal and Leflore County School districts. She taught for 24 years and received the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Education Award in 2006 and the Teacher of the Year Award for Claudine Brown Elementary School in 2006 and 2009.
“Ms. Whicker’s impressive commitment to education will certainly prove valuable to our Board as MPB continues to provide relevant educational programming and services to our children in Mississippi,” said MPB Executive Director Judy Lewis.
Whicker serves on the education committee of the Greenwood-Leflore Chamber of Commerce and is a seven-year advisory board member of the Greenwood Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
“I am honored to serve on the MPB Board and look forward to working with the other members, Dr. Lewis and the staff to contribute to the continuation of the excellent service MPB provides the citizens of Mississippi,” commented Whicker. “I am hopeful the educational community across the state will support and participate in the quality educational programs and professional development opportunities offered by MPB.”
In addition to Whicker, members of the MPB Board of Directors include Chairman Perry Sansing of Columbus, Rosemary Blakeslee of Gulfport, Deputy State Superintendent of Education Dr. Kris Kaase, Bob Sawyer of Gulfport, Dr. Eddie M. Smith of Decatur, and Amy D. Whitten of Oxford.
