The Mississippi Public Broadcasting Foundation (MPBF) is seeking a Development Director with the responsibility for raising funds and securing financial support from the corporate community for its statewide public broadcasting agency - Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB). The development director will assist in developing strategies for television pledge and radio drive campaigns, and managing the foundation’s membership efforts. The development director is the fundraising professional that works primarily with the citizens, business community, and other foundations. This position will be expected to work with the Board of Directors for MPBF (separate fundraising entity), and MPB (state government entity) to help the agency fundraising goals, and act as a liaison between the two entities. The development director will report to the Executive Director of Mississippi Public Broadcasting.
Manage employees responsible for membership, major gifts, planned giving, and fundraising.
Identify, research and solicit clients for financial support. Cultivate immediate and long-term prospects. Generate and track client prospects including interests, budgeting cycle, marketing objectives, historical associations with MPB/MPBF, philanthropic activities and corporate financial performance. Secure immediate funding commitments and long-term client relationships. Identify opportunities for enhanced corporate funding from current clients.
Develop proposals using qualitative and quantitative audience research. Make presentations, meet with clients, write contracts and on-air copy in compliance with MPB and FCC policies and regulations.
Provide corporate clients and prospects with on-going service and communication to enhance relationships.
Contribute actively as key team member of the underwriting staff to achieve department goals. Consistently meet quarterly and annual revenue goals as assigned.
Participate in the Mississippi Public Broadcasting Foundation’s development efforts. Represent MPB/MPBF to community at large including community events, trade organizations, service clubs, etc.
Effectively engage diverse perspectives and experiences in work product and in organizational interactions, including communication and decision-making.
Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Persuasive in oral and written communications with wide range of corporate clients
Ability to analyze data and make judgments based on data
Travel to conduct site visits and meet with underwriters and potential underwriters
3-5 years or more of successful professional experience setting and meeting goals in a client service, sales or marketing intensive environment.
Prefer public broadcasting fundraising experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to analyze and interpret data, develop presentations
Demonstrated ability to make sales or request financial support
General computer proficiency. Ability to learn new software applications.
Ability to work productively & successfully with diverse people and groups.
SALARY: The minimum for this position is $ 80,000 with actual pay proportional to experience. MPBF offers a comprehensive fringe benefits package.
