The PBS KIDS Family & Community Learning series was recently held at Commonwealth Village Apartments. This particular series was entitled Play & Learn Science and was designed to engage families in hands on learning experiences. Families with children ages 3-5 participated in creative play and science exploration during each session. Early STEM education is important in nurturing each child’s curiosity and supporting creative learning. During the sessions, parents and kids were introduced to learning resources that can be used in the development of science and engineering knowledge. The session was successful in creating opportunities for collaboration, communication and the development of problem solving skills. In addition, families were introduced to PBS KIDS Apps that can be used to further support early learning. This project is funded by a Ready To Learn grant provided by the Department of Education to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
