The holiday season brings out the festive spirit in Mississippians, as communities across the state decorate and come together for special events. MPB TV explores such events and activities throughout Mississippi in two special holiday episodes of Mississippi Roads that will air in December.

The first Roads holiday special airs on Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., and Dec. 24 at 7 p.m.

In this episode, the Mississippi Roads crew visits an ice skating rink in Madison, featuring concerts and great fun for the family. Then, a miniature Christmas village is showcased. Beauvoir on the coast celebrates the holidays, and Roads looks at a few of the displays and Christmas traditions dotting the state.

The other Roads holiday special airs on Dec. 24, 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 27 at 10:30 a.m.

This episode is headquartered in Canton, "the city of lights." Walt and the crew get in the holiday mood by exploring the Raymond Castle in full festive glory. They travel to Meridian for the decoration of the Trees of Merehope, then to the Delta for the Deer Creek festival. Finally, politics are put aside as the Governor's Mansion celebrates the holiday season.
