Mississippi Public Broadcasting is proud to announce that MPB Television Department has won eight 2019 Telly Awards.

The Telly Awards honors excellence in video and television across all screens and is judged by leaders from video platforms, television, streaming networks, production companies, including Vice, Vimeo, Hearst Digital Media, BuzzFeed and A&E Networks. Established in 1979, The Telly Awards receives more than 12,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents.

“Mississippi Public Broadcasting is pushing the boundaries for video and television innovation and creativity at a time when the industry is rapidly changing,” said Sabrina Dridje, Managing Director of the Telly Awards. “These awards are a tribute to the talent and vision of its creators and a celebration of the diversity of work being made today for all screens.”

First-place winners receive a Gold Telly Award, while second- and third-place winners receive Silver and Bronze Telly awards. Winners were named May 21.

“I am honored that our television department has won these Telly Awards. I am particularly proud of our team winning the Silver Telly for “Fannie Lou Hamer: Stand Up,” said Taiwo Gaynor, MPB Assistant Director of Television. “This documentary was close to my heart as it told the story of a powerful woman and champion of civil rights in Mississippi.”

“It’s great to have two productions awarded that are so different from each other,” said Corey Hart, an MPB television producer for two of the eight winning entries. “One is an introspective and intimate get-together of music and poetry, and the other is a revealing and sometimes harsh look at war. I think this shows the broad scope of content we like to offer our audience.”
