WMAO Scheduled Maintenance

Email share

WMAO (Inverness) will be off the air Thursday while non-functioning lamps are replaced on the tower. Maintenance will begin at 10:00 am, and we anticipate it to take no longer than 5 hours.

What are lamps? On any structure topping 200 feet in height, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires the structure to have warning lights. Not only do the lights have to be there, but there are many strict guidelines covering how the lights are to be maintained, setup, and monitored.

Why will MPB be off the air? As our tower crew climbs higher, they get closer to the antennas that broadcast our signal. We have to turn off the transmitters to ensure their safety as they complete the work.

How can I listen to or watch MPB while this maintenance is occurring? Listening to MPB Radio is easy to do thanks to the multiple ways we offer it online. Depending on your cable provider, you may still be able to watch MPB TV even while our transmitters are off. For our over the air viewers, you can use the PBS KIDS video player online or the PBS KIDS apps to get children's programming.
