A new initiative kicks off tomorrow that makes buying fresh fruits and vegetable easier for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program -- or SNAP -- recipients. It's called the Fresh Savings program. SNAP participants can use their EBT cards to purchase $10 worth of fresh fruits and vegetables at participating farmers markets and get tokens to buy another $10 worth. Program coordinator Erin Smith is with the AARP Foundation. She spoke with MPB's Desare Frazier.
American Graduate Day 2015 is tomorrow. This seven-hour, national event uses multiple media platforms to focus on keeping kids in school until they graduate. Many success stories will be told during the Day. One of them is the story of Tonya Hays and Brandon Spann of Gulfport. Hays is the director the Wings Performing Arts and Education center at the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport. Spann is a senior at Gulfport High School. We spoke with Hays and Spann about their student/teacher relationship and how it saved Spann's high school career. Hays said she gets calls to help students all the time.
