Severe weather continues to plague Mississippians this holiday season. After severe storms and tornadoes last Wednesday left ten dead in North Mississippi, today has brought severe thunderstorms as well. With us on the phone is David Cox from the National Weather Service in Jackson. Welcome, David.
Congress is out of session now during the holiday break. Senators and representatives have returned home for the most part, spending time with family and preparing for a return to Washington in January. Before the break, officials did pass the Omnibus Spending Bill, funding the federal government through fall of 2016. MPB's Paul Boger spoke with Democratic Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson -- who represents District Two. Thompson said the Omnibus Bill has much in it for his home state.
Young black males in Mississippi and across America face barriers to success unlike any other group. In education and employment, black males struggle to keep up with the country at large. The Campaign For Black Male Achievement is seeking to do something about this. MPB's Karen Brown spoke with Shawn Dove -- manager of the Campaign. He said reversing the status quo is an achievable goal. And it starts on the local level.
