State agencies continue to feel the budget squeeze as the next fiscal year approaches July first. One agency, the Mississippi Library Commission, is making plans to absorb a $1 million budget cut that will trickle down to local libraries. As a result, libraries across the state are making plans to absorb the cuts. Library Commission Executive Director Susan Cassagne tells MPB's Mark Rigsby each library system's administrative board will determine how to handle having less money to operate with next year.
The American Heart Association on the Mississippi Gulf Coast is trying to teach twelve thousand people how to do hands-only CPR. Hands-only CPR has two steps; the first is to call 9-1-1; the second is to push hard and fast on the center of the chest.The association will hold events all this week to teach the life-saving technique. Tiffany Guitterez is the association’s regional director. She told MPB's Evelina Burnett many Gulf Coast residents don't know the benefits of hands-only CPR.
Over the summer, Mississippians will log thousands of miles on trips to families and vacation spots. And as the summer continues, car safety -- especially tire pressure -- becomes vitally important. MPB's Desare Frazier spoke with Elsa Foley, a car safety engineer with Nissan, about the importance of tire safety. Foley says a safe trip starts with a plan.
