The city of Jackson is in a budget crunch--and its limited tax base is a growing challenge. The Jackson City Council passed a $382 million budget for 2016 that cuts the police and fire departments by half-a-million and three hundred eighteen thousand dollars, respectively. Ben Allen is with Downtown Jackson Partners -- an economic development association charged with promoting Jackson's Downtown. He spoke with MPB's Desare Frazier about the unique challenges of promoting the state capital.
September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month. Sickle cell is a rare blood disorder that affects mostly African Americans. Sickle cell can cause death in its most extreme manifestations and requires close monitoring. We spoke with Pat Brunson of the Mississippi Sickle Cell Foundation about this disorder.
