Segment 1: How Will State Leaders Divide New Revenue?

Some of Mississippi's top lawmakers say they expect to see very modest growth in state spending during the coming year. But as MPB's Paul Boger reports lawmakers from different sides of the aisle have different priorities on how to spend the new money.

Segment 2: Increase in Female Veterans Presents Challenges

Today is Veterans Day - the day set aside to honor all those who have served in the military over the years. The number of women veterans is expected to grow in the coming decades, but a recent study found some female vets are struggling. MPB’s Evelina Burnett has more.

Segment 3: Is Waist Size More Telling Than BMI?

Body Mass Index - or BMI for short - is what doctors have used for years to let patients know whether they are obese. But according to at least one doctor, that may not be the best indicator. Dr. John Hall is the lead obesity researcher at the University of Mississippi Medical Center's Center for Obesity Research. He says BMI can be misleading because it only divides weight by height, and doesn't take muscle mass and other factors into consideration. He says simply measuring the waist may be a better way to judge if someone is obese.

Segment 4: Clarksdale Kids Big Winners at the White House

The White House honored the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale for having one of the best youth programs in the country. Young musicians from the program were in Washington yesterday to accept the award from First Lady Michelle Obama and to show off some of what they’ve been learning. MPB’s Teresa Collier was there.
