Today is Election Day across the state of Mississippi. Polls opened at seven this morning and will be open until seven tonight. Voters can go to the polls to vote on every state and county office from governor to coroner. Also on the ballot is the education funding measure -- Initiative 42. We will cover election results tonight during Election Night Live on MPB Think Radio -- starting at seven with initial numbers. Then we will be live from eight to ten with results, candidate interviews and insight and analysis. Joining us now with a quick preview is Doctor Kenneth Townsend -- assistant professor of political science at Millsaps College.
The state's only level one trauma center -- the University of Mississippi Medical Center -- has gotten a failing grade on patient safety. The Hospital Safety Score published by the non-profit, watchdog organization -- the Leapfrog Group -- is an annual report that measures how safe medical centers keep their patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. Out of thirty-three hospitals, ten in Mississippi were given an A or B grade. MPB's Paul Boger spoke with Jillian Laffery -- a spokesperson for Leapfrog.
