Economists say falling gas prices could give Mississippi's economy a boost. The average price for a gallon of gas is around $2.30 a gallon, but for some areas of the state gas is selling for less than $2.00 a gallon. That is the lowest price fro gas since 2009. State Economist Darrin Web says the lower fuel cost is having a positive effect on state coffers.

It's an industry poised to grow in the wake of billions of dollars heading to the Gulf region for environmental restoration after the BP oil spill. David Brannon is general manager of Mississippi's new National Oceans and Applications Research Center. He says they hope to create technology that will be used to help with restoration projects.
One of Mississippi's most pominent Alzheimer's researchers says new discoveries could lead to the ability to prevent the disease. Dr. Tom Mosley runs the MIND center at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He says new research may be able to pin down early risk factors and head off what could be an explosion of cases as baby boomers age. Dr. Mosley says the recent passing of Rose Cochran - the wife of Senator Thad Cochran, and a longtime memory disorder patient - sheds an important light on the need for dementia research.
