The Mississippi Economic Council is on target to release an in-depth study in November that examines Mississippi's infrastructure needs and finds cost effective funding options. MEC created a task force of business leaders who are overseeing the research. Scott Waller with MEC spoke to MPB's Desare Frazier about the report and the state's infrastructure needs.
Mississippi's tax code may increase income inequality between rich and poor residents. That's according to a report written by a number of economists working with the Federal Reserve. David Wessel is with the Brookings Institution, an economic think tank based in Washington, D.C. He spoke with MPB's Paul Boger about the issue.
As the U.S. and Cuba begin to explore more normal relations, many are seeing an economic opportunity for Mississippi and the rest of the nation. Former Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy says he believes the U.S. will open up trade with Cuba relatively soon. He told MPB's Evelina Burnett that business leaders should start acting now if they want to be a part of the new era of trade with Cuba.
