Doctors at the University of Mississippi Medical Center have performed the first pancreas transplant in the state. 49-year old Paul Davis received the pancreas, as well as a transplanted kidney a little over a week ago. The dual procedure has effectively cured Davis of Type 1 Diabetes - which he has had since he was 9 years old. Davis spoke with MPB's Jeffrey Hess about the experience.
Homelessness among the nation’s former military service members has declined considerably since the Department of Veterans Affairs announced its goal to end veteran homelessness by 2015 - and poured billions of dollars into housing and other programs. Starting today, deer hunters are back in the woods in full force. Hunting season in Mississippi is broken up into several different parts, depending on the weapon of choice - guns, bows, primitive-style guns, and more. After a brief hiatus, gun season is back open today. Chad Dacus is Wildlife Director for the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
