The Summers family owned many businesses and was prominent in Jackson's African-American community during the Civil Rights Era. Dr. Timmothy Summers and his late brother, Marvin, learned the value of hard work and entrepreneurship from their father, W.J. Summers. Timothy Summers shares some of that family history with his niece, Zakiya, during the Mississippi stop on the StoryCorps Mobile Tour.
The StoryCorps Mobile Tour visited Mississippi through a partnership with the Mississippi Humanities Council, The MPB Foundation, and Mississippi Public Broadcasting.
