The 35-year old Mississippi man charged with killing eight people in Lincoln County remains in jail without bond. Families members are in shock over the deaths.
"I don't want these images. I don't want them. Jesus, Jesus," said Shonda May.
Forty-two-year old Shonda May says she can't get the images of the gun rampage at her sister's Brookhaven home out of her mind. She was there when Willie Corey Godbolt knocked at the door around 6:15 Sunday morning. Shonda says her brother-in-law, Ferral Burage, wouldn't open the door because Godbolt wouldn't identify himself. Shonda says Godbolt then began shooting through the door. She says her brother-in-law shot him in the arm and Shonda told her niece to hide. She ran towards the back of the house.
"As I was running back, I could see my sister's room. My brother-in-law was falling to the floor. I ran down the hall and I jumped in my niece's closet," said May.
Shonda says Godbolt killed the couple. She and her niece survived. That was the third stop Godbolt allegedly made in a shooting spree that began Saturday night. Lincoln County Sheriff Deputy William Durr responded to a domestic call in Bogue Chitto. Godbolt said he was there to talk about his children. He's charged with killing 36-year old Durr and three family members.
Godbolt's wife, children and another relative escaped. Authorities says he targeted a second home in Brookhaven, where he
killed two boys ages 17 and 11. Myrtis May lives across the street from Godbolt. May says her niece is married to him and she's seen him beat her. One time she called 911.
"He always blew up. He threatened to kill me and all my family," said May.
Godbolt faces one count of capital murder and seven counts of first degree murder.
