The winners of Mississippi's primary run-off elections say they're celebrating their victories with eyes towards the November election.

Madison and Rankin County District Attorney, Republican Michael Guest, says they worked hard to get his supporters to the polls. He won the Republican nomination for the 3rd Congressional District seat in the Tuesday's run-off race. Guest pulled out an early lead against his opponent Businessman Whit Hughes. By 8:15 last night the race was called for Guest.

"We campaigned on the fact that the last 22 years I have fought for the people of Mississippi. I have worked with the men and women of law enforcement, our judicial officials to see that our communities are save and great places to live and worship and raise a family," said Guest.

In the Democratic run-off election for U.S. Senate, State Representative David Baria of Bay St. Louis, defeated Howard Sherman, a venture capitalist. By 8:40 last night Baria was announced the winner. Some of the issues he campaigned on;fully funding education and improving healthcare.

"I am very, very grateful for the voters and for all of my volunteers who worked so hard to get us to this point and to my colleagues in the House and the Senate for their endorsements and also for their hardwork in their districts encouraging people to vote," said Baria.

Guest will run against Democratic State Representative Michael Evans of Preston in the November general election for the 3rd Congressional District seat. Baria faces Republican U.S. Senator Roger Wicker and two other candidates in the fall.
