No Verdict Yet in Jackson Mayor Trial
Nine women and three men return to deliberations today in the federal civil rights trial of Jackson Mayor Frank Melton and officer Michael Recio. MPB's Lawayne Childrey reports.
After a full day of deliberations, jurors were back in the courtroom seeking permission from Judge Dan Jordan to recess for the night. The request came in the form of a hand written note. This was the last of four notes the judge received yesterday. They requested the courts meaning of conspiracy, and transcripts of Michael Taylor's testimony. All were granted. except their appeal to declare an impasse. But exactly how much weight can be put into notes? According Frank Melton's attorney, John Reeves, not much.
Mississippi College of Law professor, Matt Steffy believes long deliberation generally favor one side over another.
If convicted on all charges the two men could face up to 25 years each in prison. For MPB News, I'm Lawayne Childrey.
