  • Optometrists get house vote for new prescription authority
    The Mississippi House of Representatives has voted 82 to 35 to allow optometrists in the state to use more prescription drugs and write more prescriptions. The issue was hotly debated and the measure will now go to the senate and a possible conference committee. State Representative John Reeves told his fellow legislators the proposal would be a mistake. (0:31)

    But Health and Public Welfare Chairman Steve Holland said in many parts of the state there are no Ophthalmologists and Optometrists need the authority to provide needed care. (0:18)

  • House passes new drug authority for optometrists
    The first major legislation passed this year by the Mississippi House of Representatives is a bill to allow more authority for Optometrists to use and prescribe prescription medicine. Wayne Sorge was at the capitol for the debate. (1:29)

  • Chip Pickering is pushing to get the Federal Communications Commission to more strictly enforce indecency laws on public airwaves
    This comes after the word commonly referred to as the "f-word" was used during last year's Golden Globe Awards. The FCC ruled the use of the word was acceptable, because it was not used in a sexual context. (0:08)
