  • Barbour has no problems with hiring freeze
    Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour is commending legislators for realizing that state agencies can't keep a business as usual approach. With that in mind, the governor says he has no problem with the freeze on hiring and on purchasing new equipment for the state, which passed in the House of Representatives last Friday. The governor says this is the second year in a row the house has done that. (1:02)

    Mississippi's U.S. Senator Thad Cochran says it will be good to have the newly appointed Presidential Commission study concerns about the nation's intelligence community. Senator Cochran says we all should be concerned about the questions raised about the accuracy of the information provided about pre-war Iraq, but he believes much has been correctly documented by the Central Intelligence Agency and international organizations.     Governor Haley Barbour and Alabama Governor Bob Riley were no shows Friday at an economic development conference in Livingston, Alabama. But Mississippi Public Broadcasting's Scott Phillips was there, and reports the focus of the conference was improving economic development along the impoverished central region adjoining the two states.
