  • Mississippi Secretary of State and the Attorney General present proposal for campaign finance disclosure
    Mississippi Secretary of State Eric Clark and Attorney General Jim Hood are presenting a proposed bill to force disclosure of information about people and groups who buy advertising to influence elections. Clark and Hood presented the proposal at the capitol. (1:30)

  • Flaggs proposes Department of Juvenile Justice to take over juvenile schools
    The chairman of the Mississippi HOuse of Representatives Juvenile Justice Committee is planning to present legislation to present a new state department of juvenile justice. Wayne Sorge reports the concern is prompted by a federal investigation of the state's juvenile training schools. (1:30)

  • Representative Flaggs wants new state agency on Juvenile Justice
    Chairman George Flaggs of the Mississippi House Juvenile Justice Committee says he is preparing legislation to create a new state department of Juvenile Justice. Flaggs says the U.S. Justice Department is determined to take the state to court over the problems at the state juvenile training schools and he wants to show the federal government the state is ready to correct problems at the facilities with allegations of civil rights abuses.     But a group of organizations known as the Schoolhouse to Jailhouse Coalition says the juvenile schools should be closed because they have outlived their usefulness and most of the juveniles sent there are in custody for status violations like truancy. Ellen Reddy explains. (0:34)
