discussion
A House budget
unveiled yesterday by
Speaker Billy McCoy
would fully fund education
and state employees
health insurance while
using some of Governor
Haley Barbour's spending
suggestions for Medicaid
and prisons. It's a
plan that would also
increase fees by 17.6
million dollars. Speaker
McCoy says he realizes
the proposal will face
debate and discussion
in the political process.

van in connection with
the missing Yazoo County
family
Department of
Public Safety Spokesman
Warren Strain declined
to say how investigators
received the information,
but says the van was seen
in the vicinity of the
Hargon residence and seen
speeding away from the
Vaughan area on the day
of the disappearance.
Strain says the focus
of the investigation
is shifting from a missing
persons case to a criminal
investigation. The Hargon
family has been missing
since Valentines Day.

drug use
Federal, state
and local law enforcement
officials have teamed
up in "Operation
Clean Sweep" to help
fight Mississippi's war
on drugs. During a 20-day
drug sweep earlier this
month in Hinds and Warren
counties, law officers
made a total of 165 arrests,
121 of which were drug
related.
U.S. Attorney Dunn
Lampton says this is
just the initial phase
of an effort to attack
the demand for illegal
