    Amid many budget discussions with many Mississippi elected leaders pledging to oppose any tax increase, one legislator says he will propose an across-the-board tax increase next week. Wayne Sorge reports. (1:33)

  • Pay hike for county officials approved by house
    A Bill approved by the Mississippi House would give county elected officials their first raises in eight years. The measure increasing salaries and fees passed 91 to 21, but still has to be approved by the senate.

    Raises for most county officials, including sheriff's and tax assessors and collectors could be automatic under the House bill, but county supervisors would have to vote to accept their own raises. The sheriff's raises would be twenty percent.

    During the discussion, House chairman for fees and salaries David Green of Gloster made it clear that legislators were not getting a pay raise in the legislation. (0:46)
