    It took lengthy debate and discussion, but the Mississippi House of Representatives has approved establishment of a task force headed by the governor along with an advisory committee to address problems in the state's juvenile training schools. Wayne Sorge reports there was opposition. (1:28)

  • Task force and advisory council approved by House of Representatives
    The Mississippi House of Representatives has voted to establish a task force headed by Governor Barbour and an advisory council to address problems in the Oakley and Columbia training schools for juveniles. State Representative John Reeves of Jackson advised against establishing the task force and advisory council and said the state should not admit allegations of abuse as cited by the U.S. Justice Department.     But House Juvenile Justice Chairman George Flaggs said the allegations from the federal officials are serious and need to be addressed by the task force and the advisory committee. (0:41)

    The faculty senate voted no confidence in Shelby Thames leadership following the suspensions of two tenured professors. IHL commissioner David Potter says while the turmoil will be addressed, the matter concerning the professors won't be. (0:12)

    Attorneys representing the suspended professors have requested the college board close the termination hearings to the public. But board member Roy Klumb says the college board wants to stay out of this issue if it can. (0:31)
