The Radio Garden

The Radio Garden, not even a year old now, is about the size of a pickup truck bed - not very large at all. Since last July we have planted and enjoyed flowers, vegetables, herbs, shrubs, bulbs, and even rooted roses - all done with LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES A WEEK.

It includes a water garden, a container garden, and even night lighting. The purpose is not only to have a nice little garden for all-year enjoyment, but also to encourage new gardeners to start small and have fun.  No pesticides are used in this garden - not out of fear or aversion, but simply because in a mixed garden, pests are simply not as severe, and beneficial critters take care of what does pop up.

We have been handling a lotta calls and e-mails about worm composting lately, It is an easy way to recycle newspapers and kitchen scraps into "worm castings" - some of the richest compost on Earth! And believe it not, it smells only like wet paper.

Worm Composting

Here is  a closeup of one of Felder's previous worm boxes, made from a plastic sweater box, and a shot of the box o' worms that a listener named Liz Streithorst, from down in Fowl River, Alabama, sent last week. For step-by-step on what you need to make your own worm box, and how you do it (with photos), go to www.felderrushing.net and click on the Felderphotos of the Week link on the left hand side.
