Karen Hearn’s musical training began at age three, when she studied violin at Centenary College in Shreveport, LA. As Karen’s love of music grew, so did her instrumental arsenal. She learned to play piano and flute, and ultimately earned a degree in voice and a master’s degree in choral conducting from Louisiana State University. Karen has served as a church cantor, and is an experienced instructor in both piano and voice.
An avid listener to public radio, Karen first became actively involved as a volunteer at WRKF in Baton Rouge before moving to Jackson in August. She likes to cook and crochet while listening to Steve Reich or Haydn. While playing video games, David Bowie is Karen’s more likely choice.
Karen has come to know many wonderful people in Mississippi since her August arrival, and looks forward to a very fond acquaintance with her new audience as she assumes her new role as MPB’s classical music director.
