New Orleans received all of the attention after Hurricane Katrina. But it was the smaller towns that were hurt the most. MPB examines the volunteer efforts in the gulf town of Pearlington by living and working a week through the struggles of local residents a year after Katrina.

When I learned that there was still a high demand for volunteers, even one year later, I knew I needed to travel to one of these small Mississippi communities to help out in their rebuilding efforts. This is my story.
