Morgan Freeman hosts Blues Divas featuring performances and interviews with eight of the world’s most soulful female performers.
Freeman, co-owner of Ground Zero Blues Club in Clarksdale, introduces and interviews performers Irma Thomas, Mavis Staples, Odetta, Deborah Coleman, Ann Peebles, Bettye LaVette, Renee Austin and Denise LaSalle. The program series was taped at the Ground Zero Blues Club in the spring of 2004.
The two-hour compilation version of the series recently premiered at the AFI Silver Theatre near Washington, D.C. Blues Divas is presented through a partnership with the Foundation for Public Broadcasting in Mississippi, and Mississippi Public Broadcasting, and is underwritten by Entergy Mississippi. All versions of the program are produced and directed by filmmaker-in-residence Robert Mugge. Foundation for Public Broadcasting Executive Director Ty Warren is the Executive Producer of the program. |
