Mississippi Outdoors - (#1511)

Hosted from Percy Quinn State Park

Patrick and Janet try their hands at golfing on the beautiful golf course at Percy Quinn State Park. The Quail Hollow golf course has already made a name for itself among golfers from the southeast. Arthur Hills designed this fabulous 18-hole championship course as well as the beautiful 9 hole short course that is an added amenity. There is also a large driving range and putting green.

Turkey Hunting

It’s the fist day of turkey season and we’re getting an early start on the hunting action. At first light a boy bags a gobbler as it flies down off its roost. Another opportunity waits for another young hunter as he learns some hard lessons about turkey hunting. The hunts take place in Jefferson County.

Black Prairie Lake

Melvin fishes a brand new lake in Black Prairie Wildlife Management Area. The Bass are biting and Melvin just can’t get enough of this great new opportunity for Mississippi fishermen.

Holmes County Boat Races

The Outdoors crew takes a look at radio-controlled boats. The small-scale boats can shred the water with their high power-to-weight ratio. All the fun is happening at a new facility at Holmes County State Park. The boats race around an oval marked with buoys and there’s no way to slam on the brakes with these things. It doesn’t take to much damage one of these high performance racers and then it takes repairs and expertise to get back on the water.

Pickwick Profile

We take a botanical tour around the region of Pickwick Lake in the very northeast corner of the state. The unique and colorful plants of Pickwick are amazing to see up close. We discover rare and unusual blooms indigenous to this mountainous region of our state.

ATV Discovery

Learn some how-to tips on planting food plots. Food plots are one of the most valuable tools for attracting and sustaining good game. Not everyone has the heavy equipment needed for planting food plots so we’ll take a look at making food plots using ATV’s.
