Mississippi Outdoors - (#1512)

Hosted while Fly Fishing

Patrick and Janet visit D’Lo Waterpark. They meet Glen Davis, an avid fly fisherman, get suited up and ready for some fly-fishing. It takes some practice to get the hang of it but both of the hosts are fly-fishing by the end of the day.

Day of Ducks

Mississippi Outdoors field host, John Sullivan, is out on a cold morning to find some great hunting opportunities. He and others enjoy a beautiful morning in the delta as they wait for the game. They are hunting duck in a small area of flooded timber in Tunica County and they don’t have to wait long before things get exciting.

Waterborne Fun

We take a look at boating on the Tombigbee Waterway. It’s a great place for boats of all sizes and shapes. There are many places to stop for a bite to eat or to spend the night. Folks can stay in their boats in a marina or they can get on dry land and stay in the condominiums that are available along the way. Whether you are fishing, skiing, or just relaxing, the Tombigbee Waterway has something to offer all its guests.

Wal-Mart Fishing Rodeo

We take in a fishing rodeo sponsored by Wal-Mart and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. The occasion is hosted at Oktibbeha Lake and fishing, food and contests for kids are all part of this great event. Young anglers get a chance to catch the fishing bug and become life long participants in the Mississippi’s great outdoors.

Inside Fish Hatcheries

How do they get all those fish started in Mississippi lakes? Who gets things ready for those fishing rodeos anyway? Mississippi Outdoors takes a look at the fish hatcheries that keep up the quality of the fishing in the state. From capturing live specimens, to raising hundreds of thousands of fish, they are ready to make more great fishing lakes across the state.

Got A Big Buck?

This week’s Outdoor Discovery tells you about the Magnolia Records Program. You’ll definitely want to get your prize animal scored for the program. It gives county-by-county records of information on deer harvests statewide. You can compare your buck with others in the area and find out if you’ve got a record breaker. Scoring sessions are held throughout the state and you can find more info at www.mdwfp.com.
