Mississippi Outdoors - (#1516)

Hosted from the Nature Trails at MMNS

Fall is a great time of year to enjoy the nature trails at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. Patrick and Janet get a chance to take in the fall color and explore the natural environment that is so close to downtown Jackson. The trails are located in LeFleur’s Bluff State Park.

Wildrose Kennels Pheasant Hunt

Melvin gets to meet Mike Stewart of Wildrose Kennels to find out what they are doing with their dogs. The Kennel is located in Oxford, Miss. Mike specializes in raising and training imported British Labradors. Melvin gets to head out to the field to try these dogs out on a pheasant hunt.

Rabbit Hunt in Scott County

Melvin joins Terry Bakker and a group of friends at for a rabbit hunt in Scott County. One of the hunters is a professional barber and the group is going to find out if he has better luck finding “hares”. The rabbits can’t hide from Melvin or the barber.

Motocross Madness

The sound of racing engines breaks the night air as motocross racers from across the state compete. The high speed and quick action of these motorbikes draws a crowd to see who can take first place without a nasty spill. The riders risk a lot to keep this high-energy sport alive. The track is located in Purvis, near Hattiesburg. We'll find out who can make it to the finish line.

Chainsaw Artist

Dayton Scroggins likes his “quiet time”. However he finds his quiet time while maneuvering a chainsaw. This award winning chainsaw carver has an incredible ability to turn a log or stump into a work of art. Wildlife seems to come to life from the wood as he fashions it with the saw. From bears, to dogs, and eagles, to humans, Dayton has done it all. We’ll join him as he works on a special turkey.

High School Fish Structures

Purvis High School students began a fundraising project and decided to design and build homes for fish. The whole class gets involved in constructing these structures. They are creating better habitat for fishermen across the state. It doesn’t take a lot of material to create these, but these great structures can really help to support a fish population. These kids have definitely found a great fundraiser.
