Jackson, the
Capitol City, is our third stop of the season.
Of course, Jackson is full of beautiful parks
and museums and government buildings. But
what about its hidden treasures? For this
edition of Mississippi Roads, we set out
to discover some of them, and here are just
some of the places we stopped between our
stories--Mynelle Gardens, Farish Street,
and the new Natural Science Museum.
For Kathy Thibodeaux
and her husband Keith, art is a way of life.
They operate Ballet Magnificat!, a professional
ballet company dedicated to making dance
a way of worship. Kathy has been a dancer
for most of her life. Keith is a drummer
who used to play Little Ricky on "I Love
Lucy." Together, from Jackson, they share
a ministry of their own making.
It's a colorful
corner of Jackson at the Farmer's Market.
With all the tastes and aromas, taping there
was a treat for our senses. The market is
filled with fresh produce from all over Mississippi.
Ann Patrick runs one booth. She's been at
the market for 22 years, and she says it's
not just about delicious food. It's about
making friends, too.
City Hall is
one of three buildings in Jackson which were
spared from burning during the Civil War.
On Walt's Way, we venture to the third floor
of this historic building. That's the site
of the Masonic Temple. It's a beautiful space
which is still in use today.
Poet and ETV
Associate Producer Yvetta Williams grew up
in Jackson. We're honored to include one
of her poems, "Precious Memories" in this
show. Yvetta shares some of her personal
hidden treasures by visualizing her childhood
memories.
