Petal lies in the
rolling, piney hills of southern Mississippi,
and for most of its life, it was the "largest
unincorporated town in America." But that all
changed in 1974 when the town officially became
a city. It's the only community named Petal
in the United States.
Live
from Oxford, Mississippi, it's Thacker Mountain
Radio! Every Thursday evening, touring musicians
and visiting writers get together with the local
host band for an hour of fun and performance.
Pat
Nichols and her husband Marc Padelford share
a unique hobby. They go dirt track racing. Pat
may be in the driver's seat, but Marc's mechanical
skills keep her car out front. Together, they
have a good time.
You
might say that there's a part of Petal with
a checkered past. It's the International Checker
Hall of Fame, a one-of-a-kind monument to the
classic game. On our Classics Roads segment,
we take a retroactive tour.
What
is it about waterfalls that makes them so hypnotic?
The power? The sound? The fresh air? Join host
Walt Grayson on a trip to Dunn's Falls, one
of Mississippi's largest cascades.
