The Madison County town of Flora is our featured town in this program. The area was settled in 1830 by Colonel Walton Gaston Kearney and became a major shipping point for cotton and lumber. Today, there is a revitalization effort in downtown Flora. A new 7,500 square foot library will be built here in 2002.

We visit Flora artist and photographer Lea Barton and find out what she is doing to preserve landmarks and signs that dot our southern landscape.

The Petrified Forest in Flora is the largest of its kind east of the Mississippi River. We find out that this park has a lot more to offer than just petrified wood.

The Pugh-Blundell House in Yazoo City has been placed on the Ten Most Endangered Historic Places list in Mississippi. The Mississippi Heritage Trust hopes to bring awareness to the property in hopes that it can be saved from becoming extinct.

Walt explores the bunkers of Kearney Park in Flora and discovers the military history of the area in this weeks edition of Walt's Way.
