The town was established on The Gulf and Ship
Island Railroad in 1900. The site was selected
by a railroad employee and the post office located
in Old Taylorsville, about six miles away, was
moved to "New Taylorsville" thus establishing
the town.
Taylorsville
was founded as a direct result of the immense
pine forest that grew in the county and surrounding
area. With lumber being plentiful, many businesses
and homes were rapidly built and today the industry
is a vital part of the economy of Taylorsville.
In our

road side attractions on Highway 49 between
Jackson and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
