This week we bring you a very special program
that features outstanding Mississippians. In
fact, Mississippi has produced more writers,
poets and musicians per square mile than any
other state in the nation. And tonight we will
introduce you to a few of those people.
Mississippi
has produced some outstanding entertainers like:
Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, B. B. King, Conway
Twitty, Jimmie Rodgers, and of course Elvis
Presley.
In our
first story we meet a lady whose voice is as
smooth and flowing as the river that runs through
her home town of Vicksburg. Lucia Hawkins sheds
some light on her shining career as an opera
diva.
The Mississippi
Sports Hall of Fame pays tribute to the great
athletes that our state has spawned. Names like
Walter Peyton, Archie Manning, Jerry Rice, Brett
Favre and Dizzy Dean are just a handful of the
sports stars that you can learn more about at
this museum.
In our
next story we introduce you to Frank Gambrell,
he is a Port Gibson resident and an athlete
that you've probably never heard of but he is
someone we could all take a lesson from.
Mississippi
has a lot to celebrate when it comes to artists;
names like Walter Anderson, Caroline Compton,
William Hollingsworth, Jr., Marie Hull and George
Orr are all celebrated Mississippi artists.
You can
add one more name to that impressive list, Bay
St. Louis resident Alice Moseley didn't start
her second career as a folk artist until she
was in her 60's but her work is sure to catch
your eye.
From
the rolling hills of the northeast to the flat
rich delta land to the pine forests of the south
to the sandy white beaches of the gulf coast;
Mississippi has its share of natural beauty.
In our next story we profile the magnificent lady who
transforms all these areas with the emergence
of spring. On this weeks edition of Walt’s
Way.
