TITLE OF POSITION: General Assignment Reporter  (Public Broadcasting Specialist II)

DEPARTMENT: News & Public Affairs 

ANNUAL ENTRY SALARY: $40,864 - $45,000 depending on experience 

 

JOB DUTIES INCLUDE: 

Mississippi Public Broadcasting is seeking a reporter to join our award-winning news team.  This person is primarily responsible for daily newscast stories, NPR-style features/two-ways and producing news content for MPB’s digital platforms.  The ideal candidate should be a self starter with strong news judgment who’s enterprising and capable of generating story ideas. The reporter may be asked to anchor newscasts and host programs.  

Mississippi Public Broadcasting is statewide radio/television network and one of three partner stations of The Gulf States Newsroom. This exciting, new collaborative reporting project works to plan coverage, share resources and increase reporting power in the gulf region.

We are an eight-station statewide television and radio network. The news team has been honored with four National Edward R. Murrow awards and several regional awards for excellence in broadcast journalism. 

This position is classified as State Service, Exempt. EOE M-F 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES and QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Pitch story ideas, produce quick-turn newscast stories and long-form features
  • Produce engaging digital stories and actively contribute to MPB’s social media channels.
  • Willingness to travel across the state to report stories
  • Serve as a back-up host on an as needed basis
  • Willingness to work non-standard hours, including occasional weekends and holidays

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree and 1-4 years of experience, 1 year of which would be preferred to be reporting/producing experience.
