Hi y’all, it’s horticulturist Felder Rushing.
It’s not Spring yet! There are all sorts of things you can be doing outside right now, even though it’s still a little chilly. We’re still in March with Spring fast approaching, but there are lots of things going on in your yards and gardens right now.
I’ve got lettuces and salads and violas and plenty of plants that like cool weather, which can be planted now. Also, I’ve been enjoying all the wildflowers in people’s lawns. They sometimes bother people, but they don’t bother the lawn. Right now, they are loaded with pollinators like bees and things on every warm day.
Once Spring comes you can just mow them down, but right now, they aren’t hurting anything. In fact, they are helping our friends the bees prepare to help pollenate all the plants we do want!
So just relax and enjoy what we’ve got right now. Plant some lettuces and keep in mind that it’s okay to be wintertime in Mississippi and still garden.
