MPB Remembers Former Deputy Executive Director Catherine Graves Patterson as Dedicated Leader
Catherine “Kay” Graves Patterson, the former deputy executive director of Mississippi Public Broadcasting, is remembered as a dedicated leader who began her tenure with the agency soon after it was established.
Patterson passed in April at the age of 85. She began working at MPB (then known as Mississippi Educational Television) in 1971, connecting the agency with Mississippi schools and helping to establish a remote learning model. Patterson retired in 1979 but returned in 1996 to introduce new satellite learning technology, which has become the online classrooms of today.
Into the 2000’s, Patterson helped lead MPB in many roles, including acting executive director, as she advocated for continued educational programming. She retired from MPB in 2003 as deputy executive director.
Patterson’s legacy remains rooted in public media in Mississippi, and especially in MPB’s ongoing mission to provide quality educational resources to all residents of the state. MPB is grateful for her contributions and extends condolences to her family.
